The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has completed shooting for the first of its four anthology films under its My Melbourne project. The film, which is yet to be titled, is directed by Onir and Australian filmmaker William Duane.

It stars Arka Das, Molly Ganguly (an actor from Australia, not to be confused with the Indian actress of the same name), and Jackson Gallagher. The film was shot in five days and the story is based on grief and forgiveness. The film follows the reunion of an estranged Indian man, Indranil, played by Arka, and his father Mihir, played by Mauli, after several years of estrangement.

Talking about the film and the experience, Onir said in a statement, “I am happy to be a part of My Melbourne as it is a unique special film. It is the first time that cultural ties are being bridged and two communities are being brought together through cinema. This unique cross-country initiative has been taken to bring together the best of Melbourne’s most diverse films. My Melbourne films are diverse and focused on bringing local talent from Melbourne to the fore and I can confirm that such incredible local There is talent waiting to be discovered and this project has done just that.

Highlighting her film, she said, “My film tells a story of diversity being integral, offering a warm tale of a father trying to reconnect with his gay son. Melbourne’s talents It was a great experience working and collaborating.I am glad that Film Victoria and Mitu Bhowmik Lange (Festival Director) have taken this step to celebrate cinema and diversity.

Mitu Bhowmik Lange said, “This is a very ambitious project of love that celebrates IFFM’s core values ​​– diversity and inclusivity. The main idea is to provide a platform to emerging creatives from diverse marginalized backgrounds, from diverse regions and abilities across Australia. The other three films of the anthology will be directed by Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Rima Das.
